In-Flight Position Reference
Sight PictureHow to hold your slot and how to read the leader's Bambini corrections.
Holding the Slot — Line Abreast & Echelon
Reference: keep your eyes on the leader, never the ground. Line up a fixed point on his airframe (wingtip against canopy line) and freeze that picture. If the picture grows you're closing — ease off; if it shrinks you're sliding out — add power.
Reading the Leader's Calls
Every correction is a Bambini call. Apply small, smooth inputs and hold the new picture.
| Call | Meaning | Your action |
|---|---|---|
| Zue | Close | Tighten toward datum |
| Relax | Spread | Ease out, widen slot |
| Alto / Basso | Up / Down | Adjust vertical stack |
| Piano | Slower | Reduce power slightly |
| Sportlich | Fast | Add power, hold line |
| Chlemme | Hold the bank | Freeze bank angle |
| Stabil | No changes | Hold exactly |
| Lili / Rera | Left / Right | Turn direction called |
| Split / Grande | Break | Break to your side, deconflict |
